MAVERICK DIVISION (6U)
Ages 5-6 years old by August 31st of the current year OR currently enrolled in Kindergarten.
Purpose
The purpose of this division is to develop hand-eye coordination, instruct basic skills and concepts of baseball.
Format
This is our T-Ball division. Players hit off a hitting "T" or soft toss from a coach, no pitching, stealing or bunting, no play-offs or All-Star teams. We use a QuickBall format that incorporates fundamentals and basic game instruction into a fun environment.
Find more information about the QuickBall program HERE.
Equipment / Uniform
- A soft Quickball baseball is used to minimize the chance of injury.
- Each player receives a jersey and hat. Baseball pants and rubber/molded plastic cleats are recommended.
- Players should have their own baseball glove, but it is not required (can use bare hands).
- Every player is given a Quickball bat and ball set at the beginning of the season.
- Batting Helmets are NOT required. Personal batting helmets may be used, if desired (If purchasing a helmet, it must have a full face-mask (this is required for our 8U and 10U Divisions for safety).
Season
- Program runs approximately mid-April thru mid-June. An informational parent meeting will be held prior to the start of the season.
- Games and practices are combined at each team event.
- Each team event consists of 20 minutes of instruction/drills followed by 45 minutes of game-play.
- 1-2 team events are scheduled per week, typically 1 event during the week and 1 event on the weekend.
- Weekday events are scheduled for 5:30pm or later. Weekend event times vary.
MLBA Maverick Commissioners: TBD
The MLBA relies on volunteer parents for almost all of the functions and operations of the leagues and we are very grateful for the time and effort that so many people contribute. Even if you cannot make all of the games or practices we encourage you to offer whatever assistance you can to the team managers.
